Elton John Prepares to Record Seven New Bernie Taupin Songs in Long-Awaited Studio Return
Their last full Elton-Taupin solo album together was released in 2016, and while John has performed, toured and collaborated across several projects since then, a focused studio return with Taupin’s words marks a significant moment. John said he plans to reunite with producer Andrew Watt, who worked with him on the hit “Hold Me Closer” and other recent sessions. The goal, he added, is simple, which is to “just write and see what happens.”
The partnership between John and Taupin remains one of music’s most enduring, spanning more than 50 years from “Your Song” to “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” to “Rocket Man.” Fans have long speculated about when the pair might deliver another album-length collaboration, especially after John slowed down touring commitments and hinted at wanting to refocus on writing.
While no timeline has been confirmed, the star made it clear that the creative spark is back, and the studio sessions will begin as soon as schedules align. It signals a new chapter for a legendary partnership that continues to evolve, even after decades of reshaping pop music.
