I Was Hit With ₦100m Lawsuit for Speaking on Kwara Insecurity - Nigerian Singer Jaywon

Nigerian singer Jaywon has claimed he previously faced a ₦100m defamation lawsuit for raising concerns about insecurity in the same region where terrorists attacked a church in Eruku, Kwara State this week.

In a statement posted to Instagram, Jaywon said the church seen in the widely circulated livestream video is located in Eruku, just a few miles from his hometown in Kogi State. He insisted the footage is genuine and added that insecurity in the area has been ongoing for “a very long time.”

The singer also shared a legal notice dated May 25, 2025, which shows he was sued over comments alleging the Kogi State government was underreporting security incidents. The suit, filed by lawyers representing a political figure, demanded a retraction, apology and ₦100m compensation.

Jaywon said he was targeted simply for using his platform to raise awareness, arguing that the issues he spoke about months ago are now playing out publicly.

The church attack, which was captured on livestream and shared widely online, occurred in Eruku, Kwara State and has drawn national attention. Multiple reports confirm that gunmen killed at least three people and abducted the pastor and worshippers.

Jaywon said the situation highlights long-standing fears residents have voiced about the worsening security environment in parts of Kwara and neighbouring Kogi.
