Terrorists Attack Two Sokoto Communities, One Killed and Four Kidnapped

Two communities in Sokoto State came under armed attack early Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and four others abducted in the latest surge of violence across Nigeria’s northwest. The coordinated assault began around 9 a.m. in Ganderi Fadama and Fadama Gatawa, both located in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, a region that has endured repeated incursions by armed groups.

Residents reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and moved quickly through both communities, firing sporadically as villagers fled for safety. Local vigilantes attempted to respond but were outmatched by the attackers’ superior firepower. One resident was shot and killed during the raid, while four others were taken captive before the gunmen retreated toward forested escape routes near the border axis.

Community members told Axis Signal that many households remain unsettled as families search for missing relatives and attempt to reach security operatives. The Sokoto State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, although local sources say reinforcement teams have been alerted.

The attack deepens concerns that armed groups are expanding operations along rural corridors despite recent military deployments in neighboring states. Sabon Birni, in particular, has been one of the hardest hit LGAs in the northwest, with repeated mass kidnappings and deadly raids over the past three years.

Authorities are expected to launch a tracking operation, but residents say urgent and sustained protection is needed to prevent further violence.

More updates to follow as information becomes available.
