Swansea will be without Scotland striker Ross Stewart for their next four matches after the forward sustained a quad injury, manager Vitor Matos confirmed. Stewart has missed the recent wins over Watford and Derby County and is expected to sit out fixtures against Wrexham, Southampton, Burnley and Lincoln City before the international break.
The 30-year-old, who joined Swansea on a three-year contract last month, has made only one substitute appearance this season, coming in the goalless draw with Sheffield United 11 days ago. He has played nine minutes of football so far this season, the club's limited use reflecting the timing of his arrival and the current injury problem.
Matos offered a cautious prognosis, saying, "Ross had a soft tissue injury, not massive, but probably he can return in the international break," adding the setback is unlikely to be long term. The manager will therefore need to reshuffle attacking options while Stewart recovers.
There was brighter news over skipper Ben Cabango, who left the Blades draw with a heel problem and missed the subsequent Derby and Watford matches. Matos said the centre-back has a chance of returning for the Wrexham game, though his place in the starting XI is not guaranteed given Swansea's current form.
Swansea sit top of the Championship after taking 10 points from their first four league games, and they boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded only once, at Stoke City on the opening day. The club now faces a run of fixtures that will test squad depth before the Nations League international window.
Scotland will play Nations League matches against Slovenia twice, Switzerland and North Macedonia during the first international window of the season, meaning Stewart could use that break to complete his recovery if Matos's timetable proves accurate.
