Who loses? Good Good has dismissed its chief executive, Matt Kendrick, and president Joe Flannery amid widespread criticism of an advert that showed a woman being pushed to the ground.
The removals follow the release last month of a promotional film made for golf club manufacturer Callaway that featured co-founder Garrett Clark rushing over to Alexis Miestowski and pushing her to the floor, before shouting, "Do not touch my new driver." The clip prompted accusations that it made light of violence against women. Good Good and Callaway pulled the advert and issued apologies.
Good Good had already dismissed vice-president of brand and marketing Jeffrey Lefkovits earlier this week. Alex Puchala, head of finance and operations, said the dismissals on Wednesday were a "difficult day for the entire Good Good family." Nahid Giga, a board member and investor, has been installed as interim chief executive.
Callaway ended its partnership with Good Good and said it would donate $1m (£736,000) to organisations working to prevent violence against women and support victims. Good Good has stepped away from its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event in Austin, Texas, in November, and its products have been removed from the shelves of several retailers.
The episode lands against the backdrop of Good Good's rise as one of the largest content creators in golf. The brand launched its YouTube channel in 2020 and now has 2.1m subscribers. It produces challenge clips featuring men and women, made-for-TV shows, and adverts and merchandise tied to its content. Callaway had worked with Good Good since 2023.
Puchala said the company was encouraged by continued support and is focused on moving forward and building the next chapter of the business. With an interim CEO in place and sponsorship and retail relationships disrupted, Good Good faces an immediate task of stabilising the company and managing the fallout from the advert.
