Charlton Athletic will be without defender Collins Sichenje for the remainder of the 2026-27 season after he underwent surgery for a knee injury.
The 22-year-old Kenyan sustained the problem during Charlton's Carabao Cup fixture with Tottenham Hotspur and has since gone under the knife. Manager Nathan Jones confirmed the operation on the club website and said the procedure was successful, but that Sichenje faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
"It's a tough injury for Collins and everyone at the club," Jones said. "He underwent surgery this week, which went well, but he'll be out for an extended period. Our thoughts are with him, and we'll be supporting him every step of the way during his recovery. He's a resilient character and we know he'll come back stronger."
Sichenje joined Charlton from Serbian side Vojvodina in February and made 10 appearances for the Addicks before the injury. His enforced absence removes a young defensive option from Nathan Jones's squad during a busy period of the campaign.
The club has pledged to support Sichenje through rehabilitation while he recovers from the operation. Beyond the medical update, the manager's public backing underlines Charlton's commitment to the player's recovery and long-term prospects.
What happens next is straightforward, the manager indicated, Sichenje will undergo a period of recovery away from the pitch and the club will manage his return in line with medical advice. Charlton must now plan squad rotations and defensive cover while the defender completes his rehabilitation.
