Real Madrid secured a 3-0 win over Schalke 04 in a club friendly at VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, with Kylian Mbappé, Dean Huijsen and Carlos Espí scoring.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finding space before beating Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius with a right-footed effort. He was named player of the match despite featuring only in the first half.
Madrid doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Arda Güler’s corner found Huijsen, who headed in from close range. Espí completed the scoring after the break with another header.
The visitors had 55% possession and completed 501 accurate passes, compared with Schalke’s 366. Madrid created seven big chances to Schalke’s two and recorded seven shots on target, despite the hosts having more total attempts, 15 to 12.
Madrid’s effectiveness in the air proved decisive. They won 19 of 26 aerial duels and completed 42 of 60 long passes, while two of their goals came from headers.
Schalke won 23 tackles and held a slight edge in ground duels, but could not turn their pressure into goals. The hosts had nine shots inside the box and missed two big chances.
