The Packers will be without starting defensive tackle Javon Hargrave when they face the New York Jets on Sunday, the team announced as it prepared to travel to New Jersey. Hargrave was moved from questionable to out on Saturday after the club listed him with both a knee injury and a concussion.
Hargrave’s practice participation declined during the week. He was limited on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday or Friday, and he will not be available for Week 2 after taking 30 snaps in the opener, a loss at Minnesota. The veteran interior lineman joined Green Bay in free agency following a stint with the Vikings in 2025.
A third-round pick of the Steelers in 2016, Hargrave has also logged time with the Eagles and 49ers. The Packers will now enter Sunday’s game without a starter who has experience across multiple teams and seasons, forcing them to adjust their interior defensive line rotation.
On a related note, the Packers removed defensive end Lukas Van Ness from the injury report after he passed the concussion protocol. Van Ness had been limited in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on Friday, but clearing protocol means he is no longer listed among the game-day injury concerns.
The roster moves leave Green Bay traveling without Hargrave while regaining Van Ness’s availability. The team’s defensive front will be monitored closely on game day for how those changes affect their match-up against the Jets.
