Liam Davies moved into the English Open quarter-finals after a 4-1 defeat of world champion Wu Yize in Brentwood, marking the 20-year-old Welshman's first run to the last eight of a ranking tournament.

Former world champion Kyren Wilson ended Mark Selby's bid to reach another final with a 4-3 win. Selby, who was runner-up at last week's British Open and who won the China Open in August, opened 2-0 after an early 112 break but then dropped three frames. Judd Trump, newly deposed as world number one, survived a tight test against Scotland's Anthony McGill, edging a deciding frame to win 4-3. Ali Carter advanced with a 4-2 victory over Gong Chenzhi, registering a tournament-high 75 in that match.
Zhou Yuelong produced the competition's highest break so far, a 141, en route to a 4-2 win over Yuan Sijun. Ding Junhui also progressed, beating Joe O'Connor 4-1.
The quarter-final draw pairs Zhou Yuelong with Ali Carter, and Ding Junhui with Kyren Wilson. Judd Trump will face either Pang Junxu or Shaun Murphy, while Davies awaits the winner of Mark Williams versus Barry Hawkins.
