Shane Lowry ended a run without an individual victory, winning the Irish Open at Doonbeg by 11 shots to claim his second title at the event and his first solo tournament win since 2022. The 39-year-old from Clara in County Offaly finished on 23 under par, sealing an emphatic performance at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel watched by visiting US president Donald Trump.
Lowry’s margin of victory was the clearest measure of domination. He carded a final-round 63 that included eight birdies and one dropped shot, building on a course-record 62 on Friday and a strong putting display on Saturday that left him four clear going into the last day. Patrick Reed finished second at 12 under, with Joaquin Niemann matching Reed on that score; Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen was third at 11 under.
The win adds to a career that began with Lowry’s first Irish Open triumph in 2009 when he was still an amateur. It is his eighth career title and his seventh individual victory. The result also makes him a two-time champion of the Irish Open alongside 2025 winner Rory McIlroy, whom Lowry partnered to victory at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Lowry started the final round assertively with a birdie at the first and had added three more before a bogey at the par-three ninth. He recovered immediately with a birdie at the par-five 10th and extended his advantage with a 40-foot putt that set up birdies on 14 and 15, moving 10 clear. A near chip-in on 16 was narrowly denied, but he closed with a 29-foot birdie at the 18th to finish the weekend on a high note.
The victory ends a spell of near-misses in Dubai and Florida earlier this year and hands Lowry a commanding return to winning form as the tournament concluded at Doonbeg. The Irish Open leaderboard showed a wide spread of results, with notable names including Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm, Robert MacIntyre and Rory McIlroy among those further down the scoreboard.
