Fulham stand to add a 22-year-old central midfielder, Manuel Angel, after agreeing terms with Real Madrid that would leave the Spanish club holding 50% of his rights.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the move is close, while The Athletic says Real will include a sell-on clause and matching rights as part of the arrangement. The transfer would see Angel move to Craven Cottage as manager Alvaro Arbeloa pursues a third signing from his former club this summer.
Angel is primarily a central midfielder who can operate in a defensive role. Arbeloa handed him his first-team debut at the Santiago Bernabeu last season, and the 22-year-old made seven senior appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid.
Fulham have been rebuilding their midfield after several departures this summer, and Arbeloa’s familiarity with Angel partly explains the club’s interest. If the deal is completed, Angel would join a young core the club is assembling, following an earlier double signing of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid.
The potential signing would also come on the heels of Fulham’s reported acquisition of Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt, adding a Swedish midfielder to the squad. Should Angel’s transfer conclude before the window shuts, he would link up with Garcia, Palacios and Larsson as part of Fulham’s summer recruits from Europe.
Real Madrid’s decision to retain a significant share of Angel’s economic rights mirrors its recent strategy with other Castilla prospects. That structure leaves multiple outcomes open, Fulham could develop the player and buy more of his rights later, or Real could exercise matching options or benefit from a future sale.
