South Africa moved 1-0 ahead in the three-match series after Jordan Hermann produced a 150 on his one-day international debut, matching the highest debut score in ODI history.

The 24-year-old opener faced 126 balls and struck 17 fours and three sixes in a polished innings. Hermann combined with Tony de Zorzi for a 190-run second-wicket partnership off 167 deliveries, De Zorzi finishing on 72 from 84 balls as South Africa were put into bat and built a total of 348 for 6 from their 50 overs.
Hermann reached his first fifty off 61 balls before accelerating, with his second and third half-centuries both coming off 32 deliveries. He reached 150 with a single but was dismissed next ball, caught at deep midwicket by Louren Steenkamp off Ruben Trumpelmann. At that point the visitors were 275 for 3 in the 42nd over, and they added a further 73 runs after Hermann’s departure.
Trumpelmann finished with 4-68 for Namibia, while South Africa’s spinner Prenelan Subrayen removed four for 29 as the hosts’ reply was curtailed by rain and reduced to 31 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Namibia closed on 162 for 8, with opener Malan Kruger top-scoring on 34 from 60 balls, leaving them well short of the revised target of 262.
The match was the first ODI between the neighbouring countries. South Africa’s side was a rotated, reserve-heavy eleven that had already won four of five games in a preceding T20 tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe. Hermann, who has made six T20 appearances for South Africa and played county cricket for Somerset in 2026, was one of three debutants in the XI alongside Connor Esterhuizen and Duan Jansen, and he top-scored with 53 in Sunday’s tri-series final.
Hermann’s 150 takes him level with Matthew Breetzke, who scored 150 on his ODI debut against New Zealand in February 2025. Despite the breakthrough performance, Hermann has not been selected for South Africa’s next assignment, a home series of three ODIs and three Tests against Australia starting later this month. The second and third ODIs in Windhoek follow on Friday and Sunday, both scheduled for 08:30 BST.
