Shane Lowry, who won this year’s Irish Open at Doonbeg last week by 11 shots and is expected to defend his title at the K Club next year, confirmed he plans to play the rescheduled event. “I'll obviously be there, I'll play,” Lowry said. “Field wise, we'll see, I'm not sure. The Scottish Open will be the week after and a lot of guys are probably going to play that. But I get it. The Ryder Cup's in Ireland next year and something had to give.”

The tour said the alteration stems from the Ryder Cup moving slightly earlier in the autumn, to 17-19 September, with Adare Manor hosting the biennial contest. That adjustment forced a knock-on realignment: the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth will follow the Ryder Cup, and the French Open has been shifted to 7-9 September to clear space in the late-season window.

Alongside the Irish Open change, organisers published the broader 2027 schedule, which lists 42 tournaments across 24 countries. The calendar restores three events previously absent, the Hong Kong Open, the Singapore Open and the Open de Portugal. The tour also notes the season begins with the Australian PGA Championship in Sydney on 26-29 November, and will end with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on 11-14 November 2027.

The new placement of the Irish Open arrives with European qualifying for the Ryder Cup closing at the British Masters on 22 August, a timing that tightens the window for players seeking automatic spots.
