The match is set for the 44,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium and arrives one week after Nigeria’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
The meeting will be the second between the nations in 16 months, after a 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on June 6, 2025. In that game Russia took the lead through an own goal by defender Semi Ajayi, and Tolu Arokodare levelled for Nigeria after the break.
The October friendly slots into a compact international window for the Super Eagles. Nigeria opens its qualifying campaign at home against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, then travels to Bissau to face the Wild Dogs on September 29, before the Russia trip on October 6. That sequence gives the coaching staff consecutive competitive and exhibition tests in the space of little more than a week.
Nigeria missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but retained the Afro-Caribbean Unity Cup in London, and heads into the autumn fixtures ranked 26th in the FIFA world rankings.
