At least seven people have been killed in Russia after what officials described as Ukraine’s largest-scale drone attack of the year.
Russian officials said 822 drones were used in the overnight offensive, with 600 directed towards Moscow. The regional governor said the capital had faced one of its most substantial drone attacks in recent memory.
Five people were killed in Russia’s south-western Rostov region, according to its governor. In Belgorod, a woman died after a civilian bus was struck, while an 83-year-old man was killed in a drone attack in the Moscow region, Governor Andrey Vorobyov said.
A Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, about 25km from central Moscow, was also hit. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said three people were injured in the attack, which caused a fire and sent smoke above the site.
Wildberries has been targeted repeatedly since July. Kyiv has said it was striking logistics hubs used by Russians to buy military equipment and disrupting supplies to the Russian army.
Russia also launched attacks across Ukraine, killing at least seven people and injuring more than 39, officials said.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, a 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were killed when a private home was hit by a guided aerial bomb. Two people were killed in Kryvyi Rih, while officials reported one death each in Sumy, Donetsk and Kherson.
Kyiv came under Russian attack overnight, with air-raid sirens sounding four times. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least six people, including a child, were injured.
Russia said it targeted a FirePoint facility producing parts for Ukrainian Flamingo missiles and a factory making drone components. A book market in Kyiv’s Pochayna district was damaged, leaving books scattered across the ground as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said 13 Ukrainian regions had come under attack during the week, with Russia launching more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs and 62 missiles.
