Thirteen people are dead after a collision between a Ford Transit bus and a Toyota Hiace on the Sege-Ada road, a loss that has left the local community reeling. The two vehicles were travelling toward Ada along the Sege Highway when they collided, officials said.
Emergency crews from the Sege Fire Station responded to the scene and led rescue efforts. The Ghana National Fire Service reported 18 people were involved in the crash. Thirteen were pronounced dead and five sustained critical injuries, and the injured were taken to the Sege Polyclinic for treatment.
Assistant Divisional Officer Isaac Kojo Opoku of the GNFS Public Relations Department offered the service's condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He confirmed the fire service's role in the rescue operation and its ongoing support for victims at the scene.
The identities of the dead and the circumstances that led to the collision have not yet been established. Authorities have opened investigations to determine the cause of the crash and to piece together the sequence of events that led to such heavy casualties.
The immediate priority remains medical care for the five critically injured and an orderly inquiry into the collision. Local health workers are treating the survivors at Sege Polyclinic, while GNFS personnel and other responders continue to assist as investigators work to reconstruct what happened.
