Traffic was temporarily halted on the Kano-Zaria Road after a DAF trailer conveying passengers and goods crashed near Gadan Yankifi in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026, forcing a highway obstruction and prompting a rapid emergency response.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, said the incident was reported at about 5:00 a.m. Its rescue team reached the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call and evacuated 15 people to Kura General Hospital for treatment.

“No death was recorded in the crash, while a total of 15 persons were rescued and evacuated to Kura General Hospital for medical attention,” the Sector Public Education Officer, CRC AA Labaran, said. The corps confirmed those rescued were taken for medical attention, and no fatalities were recorded at the scene.

Sector Commander CC IM Lawal ordered a Corps tow truck to the site to remove the disabled vehicle and reopen the carriageway. The tow truck was deployed to assist in clearing the obstruction and restoring the free flow of traffic.

The FRSC asked drivers using the Kano-Zaria Road to exercise patience and reduce speed when approaching the affected area, and to obey traffic rules. Labaran reiterated that motorists should cooperate with FRSC personnel and other emergency responders as operations continue to clear the highway and normalise traffic.

Authorities will remain on scene until the trailer is removed and traffic returns to normal. The immediate priority is clearing the obstruction and ensuring those taken to Kura General Hospital receive the required care.
