Ajax stands to gain experienced defensive midfield cover after Yves Bissouma travelled to Amsterdam to finalise a short-term contract with the Eredivisie club. The 30-year-old is understood to have agreed terms for a deal that runs until the end of the season, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
His final campaign at Tottenham was limited: he made 11 appearances, all in the Premier League, as Spurs finished 17th for the second season running. In August 2025 the then Spurs manager Thomas Frank omitted Bissouma from the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, citing persistent lateness as the reason for the decision.
The move to Ajax would mark a return to regular club football for the Mali international after his release. The short-term nature of the contract gives Ajax immediate reinforcement while allowing the club to assess fit and form before committing beyond the current season.
With negotiations reportedly at an advanced stage in Amsterdam, the next steps are completion of formalities and registration, after which Ajax will decide whether to trigger the one-year extension option. For Bissouma, the switch offers a chance to re-establish himself in a new league following a reduced role in his final season at Tottenham.
