Businesses and developers can now hand the repetitive work of WhatsApp Business onboarding to AI coding agents, reducing the need to hop between Meta's developer tools. Meta announced a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server that links an external agent directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform, so a preferred model can perform setup steps by conversational instruction.
Previously, teams had to switch among the Developer Console, Meta's Business Manager, API references and their code editor to configure messaging. The MCP server removes much of that friction by exposing the platform to an agent such as Claude, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT, which can be instructed in plain language to complete tasks on behalf of the developer.
The agent can create a company's WhatsApp Business account, add and verify a phone number, register the account for access to the Cloud API and check the business's Terms of Service. It can also produce or edit messaging templates, run tests against message delivery and webhooks, and surface issues that might otherwise go unnoticed, including problems with Terms of Service compliance, a payment method or Business Verification.
Meta described this new server as an expansion of its MCP lineup, which previously covered ads and app configuration monitoring. During configuration, Meta's separate Social Technologies MCP can be used alongside the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP to discover API endpoints, search documentation and help diagnose errors.
The announcement arrived alongside Meta's rollout of new AI-focused subscription plans, reflecting a broader push to let external models interact securely with platform services. Meta joins a growing list of tech firms that publish MCP-style endpoints to grant AI agents controlled access to their systems, including PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google and Microsoft.
By connecting developer workflows directly to generative models, Meta aims to speed onboarding and reduce manual configuration. Developers can pick the agent they prefer to automate routine tasks, while Meta provides the server layer that translates conversational instructions into platform actions.
