Abuja residents risk unnecessary alarm after social media posts claimed youths in Nyanya were selling kidneys, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command said. The command denied the allegations and said it had not received any complaint or intelligence to support the viral reports.
The command pushed back against those narratives, saying there is no official confirmation of any such activity. “The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” the Command said.
Police officials warned that unverified publications of this kind can create fear, panic and unnecessary apprehension among residents. They urged users to treat social-media posts about security matters with caution, especially when the allegations involve sensitive issues like human organ trafficking.
The FCT Police also turned the public channel into part of the response, asking anyone with credible information about organ trafficking, missing persons or other security concerns to report promptly.
