President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the resignation of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who cited urgent family reasons for stepping down. Egbetokun's resignation comes amid ongoing security challenges in the country.

The President has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect. Disu's experience and leadership capacity are expected to provide steady direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.

The President will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu's appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.

The President reaffirmed his administration's resolve to bolster national security and ensure the Nigeria Police Force remains disciplined, transparent, and adequately prepared to fulfill its constitutional mandate.
