Sinners gains momentum toward the Oscars after winning outstanding cast in a motion picture at the 32nd Actor Awards, held March 1 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

The film's sweep of high-profile acting prizes, including Michael B. Jordan's win for male actor in a leading role and the ensemble award, consolidates its awards-season standing as final-round Oscar voting runs through March 5.

Jessie Buckley won female actor in a leading role for Hamnet, while Amy Madigan and Sean Penn won the film supporting categories for Weapons and One Battle

After Another, respectively. Jordan's victory had been widely expected to face a challenge from Timothée Chalamet, nominated for Marty Supreme. Frankenstein and Marty Supreme left empty-handed despite three nominations each.

On television, The Pitt won outstanding ensemble in drama and The Studio took the comedy ensemble prize. Catherine O'Hara, who died Jan. 30 at age 71, won female actor in a comedy series for The Studio.

The White Lotus went 0-4 on the night. Missing from the stage were Sean Penn and 16-year-old Owen Cooper, who won male actor in a television movie or limited series for Adolescence but did not attend.

The ceremony, the first year the show has been called the Actor Awards following a name change announced Nov. 14, streamed live on Netflix for a third consecutive year.

Kristen Bell hosted for the third time and opened with a special-material number, "Stage Name."

The In Memoriam segment featured a cover of Daryl Hall's "Everytime You Go Away," and 20-year-old Sinners breakout Miles Caton performed "This Little Light of Mine" with his cousin Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper and the DC6 Singers.

Harrison Ford received the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, presented by Woody Harrelson. Silent House Productions produced the show, with Jon Brockett serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Baz Halpin, Mark Bracco and Linda Gierahn.

The Actor Awards have a middling record as an Oscar predictor: in the last 10 years five winners of the cast prize went on to win best picture, and five did not.

With Sinners carrying a record 16 Oscar nominations into final-round voting, the industry's attention now shifts to whether the Actor Awards momentum will translate into Academy wins.
