Residents of Ahor and Uselu in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area can start returning home after the Edo State Police Command recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines loaded with 33 rounds, and arrested four suspects linked to recent communal attacks that displaced families.
The command disclosed the arrests and seizures in a statement released in Benin City on Monday, March 2, 2026. ASP Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson, named the suspects as Jabir Saleh, Musa Lawal aka Gambo, Gaddafi Iliyasu and Salau Haliru. Officers arrested the men during operations in Uselu and Ahor, communities that had reported one side attacking and ransacking the other, forcing residents to abandon their homes.
Police say the response followed credible intelligence and a targeted deployment ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika. The commissioner activated an intervention squad on February 18, 2026, and enhanced intelligence-driven surveillance produced results, leading to the interception of the weapons and the arrest of the four suspects. Combined tactical teams conducted coordinated sweeps of identified flashpoints and hideouts under divisional supervision.
The command reports that peace has been restored and residents have begun to return because of assurances of safety, and it urged sustained community partnership to preserve calm. Commissioner Agbonika called on those who temporarily relocated to resume lawful businesses, and warned that the command will not tolerate violence or criminality. He also pledged continued operations, noting, "The Command remains committed to sustaining aggressive intelligence-driven operations to ensure lasting peace across the state."
