Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc recorded interest income of N467bn in the first quarter of 2026, up 506 per cent from N77.04bn in the first quarter of 2020.

The figure was also 17.5 per cent higher than the N397.4bn reported in the corresponding period of 2025. Net interest income rose to N356.29bn, compared with N64.28bn in Q1 2020.

GTCO said the growth reflected higher interest rates, expanding earning assets and stronger yields on loans, placements and fixed-income investments. Loan interest income increased by 24.8 per cent, while interest earned on cash equivalents and placements grew by 30.5 per cent. Its net loan book rose by 1.3 per cent to N3.17tn.

The Central Bank of Nigeria maintained its Monetary Policy Rate at 13.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2020. In February 2026, it cut the rate by 50 basis points from 27 per cent to 26.5 per cent.

GTCO reported gross earnings of N571.42bn in Q1 2026. Profit before tax rose marginally to N302.89bn, while profit after tax fell 15.42 per cent to N218.13bn, largely due to higher tax liabilities.

Meanwhile, GTBank has increased the quarterly international spending limit on its naira cards from $20,000 to $40,000. The limit applies to eligible customers making international payments for services including flights, hotel bookings, tuition, medical expenses and online purchases.

The bank had previously raised the quarterly limit from $6,000 to $20,000 following improved foreign exchange market conditions.
