CBC and BBC Northern Ireland add a UK-Canada co-produced sitcom to their winter 2027 lineups after releasing first-look images for Committed, which stars Dustin Milligan and Diona Doherty. The publishers unveiled photographs that frame the romantic premise during the series' shoot in County Down and in Hamilton, Ontario.
The comedy follows Milligan's Canadian character, Peter Hooley, who crosses the Atlantic to declare his affection for Julie Doherty, played by Doherty. Julie is introduced as a recently divorced Northern Irish accountant, and the plot charts Peter's arrival in an old-fashioned, eccentric village where he must navigate family and local colour.
The ensemble includes Ian McElhinney as Julie's stern father William John; Seamus O'Hara as her well-meaning brother John William; Patrick Buchanan as the charismatic Rev. Campbell Smiley; Dan Gordon as Ivan Johnston, the family's black sheep; Muki Zubis as Chimamanda, Julie's close friend; and Chris McCurry as Mervyn, Chimamanda's husband. Athena Karkanis and Georgie Murphy are also listed among the cast.
Production is a partnership between Cameron Pictures and Fabel Productions under the UK-Canada Co-Production Treaty. Filming is underway in County Down with additional scenes being shot in Hamilton. The series is scheduled to debut on CBC and streamer CBC Gem in winter 2027, with BBC Northern Ireland set to air it around the same time.
Committed was co-created by Keith Martin, Gerry Dee and Tim Loane, with Loane serving as showrunner. The series was developed through the Northern Ireland Screen/Canada Media Fund Co-Development Initiative and received production financing from the Canada Media Fund and Northern Ireland Screen. Executive producers include Amy Cameron, Tassie Cameron and Alex Patrick for Cameron Pictures, alongside Martin from Fabel, Loane and Gerry Dee, Jessie Gabe, and Molly McGlynn, who directs the pilot and four episodes. Peter Huang directs five episodes. Co-executive producers are Dustin Milligan, Karen Tsang, Caledonia Brown and Shebli Zarghami.
Writers credited on the project include Loane, Gabe and Zarghami, with Kurt Smeaton as supervising producer and Linsey Stewart as consulting producer. On the broadcaster side, CBC's Sally Catto, Trish Williams, Sandra Picheca and Mélanie Lê Phan are named in production leadership, while BBC Northern Ireland lists Eddie Doyle and Jason Butler in commissioning roles. Production continues in both countries as the partners move toward the planned winter 2027 premiere.
