The Momentum 5 sit in the middle of the premium headphone market and aim to undercut pricier rivals while holding their own on core performance. Sound leans toward balance: vocals remain natural and bass is present without dominating, letting subtle details such as harmonies and plucked strings come forward.
Sennheiser includes Dolby Atmos support for a wider, more spatial presentation in compatible music and video. For active noise cancellation, the company doubled the microphone count to eight, a change intended to reduce voices and nearby chatter. Sennheiser claims the ANC is up to three times more effective than the previous generation at blocking that kind of noise. The ANC reduces distracting speech without introducing the ear pressure some systems produce, although it does not completely mute very loud sources like a plane engine.

A 10-minute top-up yields up to seven hours of playback, and a full recharge requires about two hours. Unlike most competitors, the Momentum 5 use a user-replaceable cell, so owners can swap the battery once it degrades rather than replacing the entire pair.
Comfort and build reflect tradeoffs for the lower price. The Momentum 5 are heavier than the Sony WH-1000XM6 and do not feel as premium as some Sony or Apple models, but the differences are modest given the sub-$400 cost. A surprisingly slim carrying case makes the headphones easier to pack for travel and to fit in medium-sized purses.
Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app provides an 8-band EQ, presets, adjustable ANC level, an anti-wind mode, and a "Sound Personalization" listening test that creates a tailored profile. The app gives users a broad set of tuning options without much complexity.
