The Lollipop Chainsaw franchise is taking a major step out of gaming with a live-action feature revealed at the Tokyo Game Show and developed under license by Dragami Games. The film is being positioned as part of a coordinated expansion that also includes a forthcoming video game and an animated series, a move the production team says is aimed at building a larger global entertainment franchise from Asia.

Leadership on the project spans international production and creative executives. Joe Teng of Nada Holdings, Robert Franke of Orange Chariot and former ZDF Studios drama leadership, Takafumi Yuki of Throne Inc, producer Kirk Shaw of Ambitious Entertainment and Patricio Rabuffetti from Non Stop TV are assembling the team that will steer the film into production.

The picture is described as an R-rated action comedy set before the events of the original 2012 game. It follows Juliet Starling, a San Romero High School cheerleader descended from a family of zombie hunters, as a catastrophic outbreak overruns her school. The story tracks her fight against the undead to protect friends and relatives, and the compromises she makes to keep her boyfriend Nick by her side.

Dragami Games president Shohei Sato said, "We are truly excited to see our vision take another important step with the franchise’s first live-action feature film." Robert Franke added, "We are making a film that feels unmistakably true to the spirit of Lollipop Chainsaw while standing completely on its own." Franke said the movie will retain the franchise's signature attitude and excess for longtime fans while remaining accessible to viewers encountering the story for the first time.

Originally released in 2012, the title has reached cult status and has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. A remastered edition, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, arrived two years ago. The production team frames the new film as one component of a deliberate, cross-media push that pairs interactive and animated releases to attract viewers who are not currently players.

The next phase is the film's development under the assembled international team and its rollout alongside the other announced projects, a strategy intended to raise awareness and expand the franchise's audience beyond its gaming base.
