Residents face continued danger after an ammunition-laden vehicle detonated in the town of Binnish in the Idlib countryside, killing two people and injuring others, Syrian authorities and local monitors reported.
Syria’s official news agency, SANA, citing Syrian authorities and a security source, said the blast came from a vehicle loaded with ammunition. The Idlib Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate gave a preliminary toll of two dead and five wounded. Turkiye’s Anadolu agency reported two civilians killed and at least eight people wounded, and added that two nearby vehicles were destroyed.
Emergency response teams were sent to the scene and the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals, officials said. Local accounts and monitoring groups described immediate alarm among residents as the smoke and noise spread through the town.
The Syrian Human Rights Observatory, a monitoring group, said explosions continued after the initial detonation, raising the risk of further blasts and the danger posed by flying ammunition and shrapnel. That pattern of secondary explosions prompted concerns for responders and people sheltering nearby.
Earlier coverage by Syria’s Al-Ikhbariya television said an explosion had been heard in Binnish and that authorities were working to determine the nature of the incident. Syrian media gave no further information about the cause of the blast or who owned the vehicle.
The differing casualty figures and the ongoing danger from scattered ammunition underline the challenge facing local authorities and emergency teams. Officials are still investigating what triggered the blast and whether any additional hazards remain secured.
