An Operation Burst base on the Igbeti/Igboho road in Oyo State was attacked before dawn on Sunday, leaving the outpost destroyed and several pieces of equipment stolen, local officials said. The post sits on the stretch between Olorunsogo and Oorelope local government areas, and the raid happened between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Operation Burst is a joint security unit made up of personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Army. The unit was set up by the immediate past governor, the late Abiola Ajimobi. Authorities in Olorunsogo confirmed the attack but said there were no fatalities.
Kazeem Olayanju, chairman of Olorunsogo local government, spoke to reporters by telephone and offered details about the damage and missing items. "The information is true. But there is no casualty. They burnt the security post we constructed for them," he said. He added that the assailants set fire to an abandoned vehicle at the site and removed a generator and a motorcycle.
The attack occurred at a location used to support patrols and local security operations along the Igbeti/Igboho corridor. Olayanju's confirmation is the only official account released so far detailing the timing and the objects taken during the raid. No statement from the security agencies that staff Operation Burst was available in the report.
Residents and local leaders have yet to publish a timetable for repairs or replacement of the destroyed facilities and equipment. The incident marks a direct strike on infrastructure intended to extend state security presence into rural parts of Oyo State and will require resources to rebuild the burned post and recover lost capability.
Authorities did not report any arrests or immediate follow-up operations in the published account. The chairman’s account provides the current record of what was lost and confirms there were no casualties in the assault on the joint security base.
