Cartier has folded a jewellery motif into leather, creating a tote whose defining hardware is also its functional fastener. The Clash de Cartier bag uses the maison’s geometric stud as a twist clasp on either side of the handle, so the piece reads as both jewellery and a handbag while the form changes with a simple motion.

The bag’s two clasps are modeled on the studs from the Clash de Cartier jewellery line, first introduced in 2019 and known for its geometric studs, beads and clous carrés. When the side clasps are left open the envelope-inspired silhouette relaxes into a softer shape; when fastened the profile becomes more tailored and structured. Cartier offers the bag in three sizes, and the collection debuts globally on September 1, 2026.

Cartier designed the tote to be worn several ways, it can be carried by hand, slipped into the crook of the arm or worn over the shoulder, while its pared-back form keeps the jewellery-like hardware front and center. The bag is crafted in Cartier’s workshops in Florence from exceptionally fine naturally grained leather selected for a soft, tactile finish that is intended to develop an elegant patina with use.

Colour options are black, caramel and a house burgundy that traces back to the Must de Cartier collection of the 1970s, when the maison broadened its repertoire to include leather goods and accessories. That burgundy links the new tote to Cartier’s leather-goods history and makes the jewellery references feel consistent with the brand’s visual language.

The Clash de Cartier line is priced at $4,100 for the small tote, $4,400 for the medium and $4,700 for the large. For styling, a silk Cartier scarf knotted loosely around the handle is one suggested option to layer another house code on the bag. The practical outcome is a single object that aims to deliver both jewellery impact and handbag utility, available worldwide from September 1, 2026.
