The Nigerian Army removed a large cache of motorcycle components and detained two civilians on Sept. 8, 2026, an action military sources say disrupted a suspected logistics line to fighters operating along the Yunusari, Mobbar axis.
Troops from 159 Battalion, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force, launched a fighting patrol into the Gumsa area after human intelligence indicated movement of logistics items, security sources said. The arrests and recoveries followed that patrol, and the two suspects were handed to the 27 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and appropriate action, the sources added.
Authorities identified the detainees as Mala Mustapha, 50, and Massa Aliyu, 40, both from Asaye village in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area. Investigators allege the men bought and transported spare parts that were allegedly bound for elements believed to be hibernating between Yunusari and Mobbar.
The forces recovered a detailed inventory of components, listed by military sources as 50 motorcycle tyres, 10 crankshafts, 50 oil seals, 31 traffic indicators, 49 acceleration cables and 46 clutch cables. Additional items reported seized included 20 spindles, 10 packs of bearings, 20 brake rods, 75 gaskets, 20 motorcycle brake shoes, 80 piston kits, 146 chains and sprockets, 11 speedometers and 15 clutch plates.
Troops also recovered piston rings, rocker arms, CDI units, shock rubbers, coils, Danpa rubbers, rectifiers, fuel taps, fuel filters, PAG valves, hand pumps and ignition keys. Investigators are examining 145 pairs of footwear found with the consignment. Security personnel also recovered two Tecno Android phones, a smaller Tecno handset and ₦3,200 in cash from the suspects.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama posted the development on X. Military officials described the operation as part of ongoing efforts by troops under Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt logistics networks that sustain Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province cells in the North East.
Military sources said troops remain on alert and will sustain intelligence-led operations across the theatre. Investigators now have custody of the suspects and the seized material as they pursue leads on procurement and transit routes used to move parts into contested areas.
