Victoria police say the suspected attacker, a man in his 50s who is known to the victims, arrived at the property at about 12.30pm on Saturday and is believed to have used an axe against an elderly man and woman and a third person. All three were treated at the scene by road paramedics and a specialist air ambulance before being taken to hospitals in Melbourne.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed a man in his 70s and a man in his 40s were transported in critical condition. A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital with serious injuries described as stable.
Police said the suspect fled the address on foot and officers launched a large-scale search that continued on Sunday. He was last seen wearing a black and mustard coloured jacket and carrying a black backpack. Authorities warned he may be armed with an axe and with a handsaw, and urged anyone who spots him not to approach and to call Triple Zero, 000.
Emergency services have closed parts of the local area while searches proceed and investigations into the incident are under way. Police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect, and have provided no further details about a possible motive.
The immediate priorities for authorities are to locate the man and to determine the full circumstances of the attack. Police continue to ask anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward to help their enquiries.
