A building collapse in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja has prompted an active rescue operation after a three-storey block gave way at about 7:00 p.m. on Monday, a spokesman for the Federal Capital Territory minister confirmed. Lere Olayinka, who serves as Senior Special Assistant to Minister Nyesom Wike on public communications and social media, made the confirmation in a statement issued in Abuja.
Olayinka said officials from the FCT Fire Service were at the scene alongside ambulances to manage medical emergencies. He said rescue teams were working at the site, but provided no figures for casualties or injuries at the time of the statement.
The FCTA Development Control had earlier in the day sealed the building and instructed occupants to vacate the premises, a step that shows the structure had drawn official attention before the collapse.
