Storm King Art Center, a prominent open-air museum in New York's Hudson Valley, has appointed Anne Reeve as its new senior curator, effective November 1. Reeve, who currently serves as curator at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., will lead the sculpture park's curatorial program. With a strong background in outdoor sculpture, Reeve is well-suited to oversee the 500-acre museum's exhibitions and programming.
Reeve's curatorial career spans several institutions, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, where she has worked since 2018, and Glenstone, a private contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland. At the Hirshhorn, Reeve co-curated notable exhibitions, such as "Lee Ufan: Open Dimension" and "Put It This Way: (Re)Visions of the Hirshhorn Collection", showcasing her expertise in modern and contemporary sculpture. She also led the curatorial program for the renovation of the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, which reopens on October 31.
Reeve expressed her enthusiasm for joining Storm King, stating, "I've long appreciated Storm King as an incubator for serious sculptural thinking. I'm drawn to the chance to work curatorially in a different kind of setting, where scale and landscape open up new possibilities for sculpture and for the artists who make it." Her appointment follows the promotion of Nora Lawrence, Storm King's former artistic director and chief curator, to executive director in January 2025. Lawrence, the first non-family member to lead the institution since its founding in 1960, welcomed Reeve's appointment, praising her "deep knowledge and sensitivity to the ways in which artists engage the landscape".
