Production, financing and international deals are the immediate stakes as Iberseries & Platino Industria brings seven screenwriters to Madrid on Oct. 1 to present six new series projects developed with Fundación SGAE. The presentations are built to put these concepts in front of producers, buyers, investors and other audiovisual professionals with the explicit aim of moving projects toward financing and broader distribution.
The slate spans contemporary social drama, historical satire, speculative fiction and comedy, offering a cross-section of Spanish-language storytelling that organisers say is meant to strengthen creative ties across the Ibero-American industry. The six projects and their creators include La librera, by Virginia Burgos and Juan Sánchez, which traces the life of the woman who opens Spain's first LGBT bookstore in the early 1990s and the decades in which the shop becomes both refuge and political backroom before the neighbourhood turns away from her.
Miguel Cavadas' Avión sets a Galician village as a stage for the fallout of emigration, switching between winter precarity and a summer festival where returning relatives parade Mexican wealth. Alberto Grondona's El capricho is a satirical historical comedy that puts Queen María Luisa of Parma, the Duchess of Alba and the Duchess of Osuna at the centre of court rivalries, observed by Francisco de Goya as an uneasy narrator.
Ángel Mirou's Teléfonos fijos stages a mystery in a Bilbao neighbourhood where landline calls at night come from people who are dead, raising the question of whether the phenomenon is supernatural or a tech-enabled deception. Roberto Osa contributes La edad menor, a dystopian Madrid where children legally become guardians of their parents, and a family secret forces a confrontation with a system of irreversible infantilization. Pedro Pablo Picazo's Trueque is a domestic comedy about three closely linked families who swap teenagers and discover the consequences.
The collection emphasises diverse points of view and commercial possibilities, from socially anchored dramas to period satire and genre-driven premises that could travel internationally. On Oct. 1 the projects will be pitched directly to industry decision makers, an explicit step toward production, financing and cross-border partnerships that Iberseries & Platino Industria say the market needs.
