Ikenga: The Last Festival has set a new commercial benchmark for Igbo-language cinema after crossing ₦75 million at the Nigerian box office, FilmOne Entertainment announced on Monday. The distributor said the title has led Nollywood box-office charts for three consecutive weeks and credited steady audience turnout for the milestone, while thanking moviegoers for their support.
The film opened nationwide on August 21, 2026. Directed by Darlington Kelechi, the cast includes Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwo, Zubby Michael, Beverly Osu, Jide Kene Achufusi, Regina Daniels and Destiny Etiko. Ikenga made an immediate commercial impact, grossing ₦22 million in its first three days in cinemas — a figure FilmOne described as the highest opening-weekend total for an Igbo film in West Africa.
Ikenga’s box-office run arrives amid a broader upswing for Nigerian cinema. Aggregate gross receipts in the country rose from ₦7.36 billion in 2023 to ₦15.64 billion in 2025, and the market is projected to exceed ₦20 billion in 2026, trends analysts link to higher ticket prices and strong headline releases. Local productions have been collecting momentum across Nigeria and the region this year, even as international titles continue to draw large audiences.
That simultaneous demand is visible in recent crossover hits: the Michael Jackson biopic Michael has already passed ₦800 million in Nigeria, underscoring how global releases and homegrown films are performing in parallel. For now Ikenga’s commercial trajectory provides a reference point for future regional-language projects, reinforcing that well-promoted local titles can achieve mainstream box-office success alongside major international releases.
