Some Taylor Swift songs have been removed from social-media videos posted by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House after the accounts used the pop star’s music in posts that appeared to mock her.
A TikTok video posted on 3 August showed Trump and first lady Melania Trump watching fireworks while Swift’s song August played.
Its accompanying text said: “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august.”
Trump’s campaign later shared another post referring to Swift’s 2012 album Red, suggesting that it was about the colour associated with the Republican Party and presenting parody track titles.
Several Trump-related social-media accounts have also used Swift’s music in campaign videos, though some of those posts no longer have sound.
The accounts have used music by other pop artists in similar posts, including Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Kenny Loggins. The artists have publicly objected to the use of their music.
Grande criticised a White House post that used her music over footage of ICE agents handcuffing and detaining people.
“Please do not use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” she wrote.
Carpenter also objected after the White House used one of her songs in a video of immigration raids in 2025.
“This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda,” she wrote.
Trump has previously criticised Swift, who endorsed then Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris during the 2024 election. He wrote at the time: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Last year, he also wrote: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
Swift’s Eras Tour was the highest-grossing tour of all time, according to Pollstar, generating about $2.2 billion worldwide. Her album The Life of a Showgirl became Spotify’s most pre-saved album ahead of its October 2025 release.
