2027: Ex-APC Vice Chair Lukman Says Tinubu, APC Must Be Defeated

Salihu Lukman says he wants President Tinubu and the APC defeated in 2027 and warns the opposition risks repeating 2023 mistakes.

Who loses? Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress risk defeat in 2027, if the opposition does not change course, former APC vice chairman Salihu Lukman warned.

Speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Friday, Lukman said he personally wants the APC and President Tinubu removed from office in 2027. He framed that aim as part of a wider frustration with how opposition forces are organising and campaigning, and called for clearer collective strategy.

Lukman said the coalition and unity he advocated two years ago had two goals, to unite opposition leaders and to build a party capable of holding elected officials to account. He expressed disappointment that those objectives have not been realised, and warned the opposition risks repeating the errors of the 2023 polls even after ongoing judicial processes.

He criticised the focus on personal ambitions among opposition figures, saying that must be addressed if the country’s broader interests are to take precedence. He urged opposition leaders to “step up their game” if they expect to wrest power from the ruling party in the next general election.

The warning amounts to a public rebuke from a former senior APC official, and a call for immediate internal reform among opposition ranks. Lukman’s comments place pressure on opposition parties to translate unity rhetoric into a durable political vehicle that can challenge the APC at the ballot box.

What happens next will hinge on whether opposition leaders heed Lukman’s appeal to subordinate personal aims and organise differently ahead of 2027, or whether the group repeats the tactical failures he says cost them in 2023.
