Cursor says it will gain the computing capacity to build and train lower-cost AI models following its acquisition by SpaceX.
The AI coding startup, which became known for its coding tool, announced that it is now officially owned by SpaceX after the companies disclosed the acquisition in June.
Cursor said the process began in April, when both companies began working together on model-training efforts. It said the deal gives it access to what it described as the world’s largest fleet of GPUs.
According to Cursor, the expanded computing infrastructure will allow it to develop more capable models and provide them to customers at lower cost.
SpaceX, which merged with Elon Musk’s AI company xAI earlier this year, paid $60 billion for Cursor. xAI was renamed SpaceXAI in July.
The companies subsequently released Grok 4.5, their first jointly developed model. Cursor said it was designed for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work, while aiming to deliver results at lower cost.
They later released Grok 4.6, which Cursor said was trained to handle real-world tasks including general coding, web development and computer-aided design.
Cursor said Grok 4.6 offers an early indication of what it can build with SpaceXAI.
