The Nigeria Democratic Congress lost campaign billboards, banners and other signage after suspected political thugs attacked its secretariat in Emohua Town, the headquarters of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the party’s local office, where attackers reportedly tore down large signages and campaign materials mounted on the building. The destruction deprived the NDC of visible campaign assets in a key local government ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Fugbara Ohaka, the NDC House of Representatives candidate for Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, confirmed the attack and condemned it. Ohaka urged party members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, warning that political differences must not spill into violence, intimidation or property destruction. He said the party would not be provoked into taking the law into its own hands.
Ohaka called on security agencies to investigate and identify those responsible, and said anyone found culpable should face the law. He framed politics as a contest of ideas and public service rather than confrontation, adding that elections will pass but community relationships endure. He urged political actors to embrace peace, tolerance and responsible engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The candidate reaffirmed his commitment to a people-centred, issue-based campaign and appealed for continued peace across Emohua, Ikwerre, Rivers State and Nigeria. The incident places pressure on security agencies to respond and on local political leaders to prevent further escalation.
