One change: 152 architecture projects have moved into contention for the Dezeen Awards 2026, and category winners will be revealed at a live ceremony on 16 November at the Royal Opera House in London.
Dezeen published the architecture shortlist, which covers 19 project categories and includes practices such as Dorte Mandrup, Farshid Moussavi Architects and Herzog & de Meuron. The entries come from studios based in 36 countries, including China, Finland, Kuwait, Portugal, Thailand and Uruguay. Shortlisted work ranges from a UK country house built with unstabilised rammed earth walls, to a trio of guesthouses in Ukraine with glass walls and thatched roofs, and a mosque in Qatar topped by a perforated, blanket-like stone‑clad steel roof.
The list also features an office in Japan that reinterprets machiya housing with "breathing" metal awnings and a sprawling brick university building in India modelled on stepped wells. Every shortlisted project has a dedicated page on the Dezeen Awards website with images and further detail, and the organisers published a full list alongside photography including Al‑Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and the Petit Quai Footbridge by À Part Architectes.
Entries were scored by an international architecture jury that includes Annabelle Selldorf, Daniel Libeskind, Ma Yansong, Amanda Levete and Norman Foster. Dezeen Awards 2026 is running in partnership with Trimble, and organisers said the architecture shortlist is the first of three reveals: the interiors shortlist will follow tomorrow, with the design shortlist published on Wednesday.
Winners in each of the 19 project categories will be announced at the Royal Opera House party, after which the 19 category winners will compete for the overall architecture project of the year. Tickets for the Dezeen Awards 2026 party are on sale, and the event is billed as an occasion for entrants, nominees and judges to come together to celebrate the programme's outcomes.
What happens next is clear: shortlisted teams will await category results on 16 November, while the awards' remaining shortlists will complete the field this week and set the stage for the final judging and live presentations later in the year.
