At least five homes on the street have been declared unsafe to enter after a 30ft sinkhole opened outside Nicolas Cage's Malibu property, blocking much of the road and constraining emergency access.

The collapse followed several days of heavy rain and high waves linked to Tropical Storm Marie, which had been a hurricane but remained offshore as it pushed stormy conditions into Southern California. Local residents first noticed an 8ft depression forming on Monday, and further ground gave way in the early hours of Tuesday to create a crater estimated at about 30ft by 30ft, or 9.1m by 9.1m.
The structural failure consumed most of the home's driveway, leaving broken asphalt, concrete and construction debris inside the hole. Traffic cones now ring the site, and French news agency reporting said waves could be seen lapping inside the crater and flowing back out under the stanchions that support the property.
Emergency services responded when the collapse caused a gas leak. Southern California Gas Company later confirmed the leak had been secured. Local media said no injuries were reported.
Residents told Los Angeles magazine they were initially not overly worried when a smaller sinkhole first appeared, and expected the damage to be fixed quickly, but then conditions deteriorated and the ground failed more extensively.
Malibu city officials have declared at least five homes on the street unsafe for entry and warned that emergency access is "severely constrained" and that the area "may be impassable due to the large portion of the road that has collapsed." The house involved was reported to have been purchased by Cage in 2024, according to the New York Times.
Cage is an Academy Award winner for Leaving Las Vegas and is also known for roles in films including Gone in 60 Seconds, Face/Off, Con Air, Pig, Moonstruck and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
