Young viewers gain another place to watch short news segments as Prime Video expands its news offering to include on-demand local and national short-form clips. Amazon said the new pieces will appear in the app's News destination, placed in the Trending Topics and Local News carousels on televisions and other living-room devices, with a wider web and mobile rollout to follow.

The clips join Prime Video's existing local, national and world news from several major providers, material that Amazon makes available to everyone in the U.S. regardless of whether they have a Prime subscription. The company described the additions as short-form content on iOS and Android but has not confirmed whether the mobile clips will be formatted vertically like many social apps.

Amazon's move follows a broader shift among streamers toward bite-sized video aimed at younger audiences. Peacock added short clips in March, HBO Max and Netflix introduced similar features in July, and Disney+ followed in August. The updates reflect an industry effort to reach viewers who increasingly consume entertainment in brief bursts rather than hour-long programmes.

The push also positions Prime Video as a non-social destination that still aims to capture the attention of Gen Z, a cohort that increasingly turns to platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts for news and commentary. Research cited by Amazon shows younger news consumers prefer short-form coverage that "feels organic, not over-produced," a style that social-native creators often adopt.

Amazon could not confirm whether the mobile clips will mirror social apps' vertical presentation, a detail that may affect how well the content resonates with audiences used to creator-driven formats. For now, the company is placing the short news pieces inside Prime Video's News hub and preparing the phased expansion to web and mobile apps.
