The White House has opened a 24/7 streaming channel, Trump TV, changing how presidential events are distributed while intercutting footage from major television and film properties.

On September 21, 2026 the White House posted a promotional video for the service that included clips from Friends, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Home Alone, Modern Family, Breaking Bad and The Dark Knight. Studios and networks whose material appears in the promo include Warner Bros., ABC, Fox, Sony Pictures Television, Disney and NBCUniversal. The administration has previously ignored copyright complaints from artists including Neil Young, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé over unauthorized use of music.

The channel was rolled out after the president barred Politico, CNN and MS Now from White House access, a move that prompted public outcry and a lawsuit from those outlets. The administration described the offering as "The Essentials Station." A White House post promoted the new stream as a continuously updated feed of official moments and announcements. The New York Times called the effort "essentially a form of state television."

Networks refused to step into CNN's pool assignment in protest after the ban, leaving no official TV pool on a day when the president traveled to New York. The absence of network-level production is visible in raw clips posted to the White House YouTube channel, including a nine-minute ribbon-cutting segment made up of long takes of handshakes and remarks, with engines from Marine One audible in the background.

The launch follows a pattern of the president sharing AI videos and repurposed film scenes on social platforms. Trump TV packages live feeds and archived administration moments with broad use of third-party entertainment footage, a combination that has already attracted criticism and raises the prospect of further disputes over copyrighted material. Meanwhile the lawsuit from the barred news organisations remains pending, and networks are likely to press the question of access and coverage in coming days.
