The incident took place on Friday at about 7 pm in the Katsalle area of Rogo town. Neighbouring residents said they were alerted by Bilkisu, who raised the alarm that her husband had been killed. When people went to the scene they found Gausu lying in a pool of blood with an injury to his head.
A local resident identified only as Kazagi said the police were contacted and removed the body for investigation. Kazagi told neighbours that Gausu had recently become engaged to another woman and intended to marry her as a second wife, a plan that reportedly produced repeated disagreements between him and Bilkisu.
Following initial enquiries, police detained Bilkisu as the prime suspect in connection with Gausu's death. Officers have taken the body into their custody and opened an investigation to establish the circumstances of the killing.
Gausu was buried on Saturday morning in Rogo according to Islamic rites, local accounts said. The burial was carried out in the town where the incident occurred.
Authorities have not released further details about the ongoing investigation or any formal charges. Residents who spoke to reporters described the case as stemming from a domestic dispute over the proposed second marriage, and said the quick police response followed the neighbours' report of the scene.
The arrest of Bilkisu places her at the centre of a criminal inquiry that will determine whether the evidence supports prosecution. Police action to secure the body and question the suspect marks the next phase of the probe.
