Sector 2 troops were dispatched to Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State on September 14 after reports that people had been abducted from Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the JTF North-West Media Information Officer, said. Troops pursued the attackers, clashed with them and recovered 10 victims from those towns, three males and seven females, including an infant. "The rescued victims are in troops’ custody for further action," Danja said.
In Kebbi State, soldiers answered a distress call after civilians were taken from Fafala village in Kangiwa Local Government Area. A fighting patrol moved into Fafala and Dandikwa, engaged the abductors and forced them to withdraw, Danja said. Subsequent searches produced 21 rescued victims who were later reunited with their families.
The JTF said it acted on intelligence about planned attacks on communities in Matazu and Kankara local government areas on September 15. During an operation at a suspected hideout the troops killed two terrorists, one identified as Abbah Alhassan, whom Danja described as a known terrorist kingpin. Items recovered included 10 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, a cutlass, camouflage clothing and Indian hemp.
Separately, the military arrested two suspects in the Yantumaki area of Dan Musa Local Government Area. "Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects were associated with a terrorist kingpin known as Mannori," Danja said. The detainees remain in military custody and will face further investigation, the statement added.
The JTF disclosed the outcomes in a statement issued on Wednesday, framing the operations as both a rescue effort and a disruption of planned attacks in the region. Military custody of rescued civilians and detained suspects means follow-up processing and inquiries will determine next legal and security steps.
