Binance has agreed to invest $100 million in Circle and to promote the issuer's USDC on its exchange, a deal that immediately gives Circle access to Binance's global user base and ties the exchange's financial incentives to USDC growth. The pact runs for five years and, according to the terms disclosed, links a monthly incentive fee to USDC balances held on Binance. Circle's stock rose more than 1% in premarket trading after the announcement.
As part of the agreement Binance will buy Circle shares at $80.84 apiece, subject to a lockup that can last up to two years with some exceptions. The partnership is intended to shift USDC beyond its predominantly U.S. footprint by putting the stablecoin in front of Binance's international customers.
Circle has been broadening its product slate, launching the Arc blockchain last week and exploring nanopayments and agentic commerce, but those efforts still rely on expanding USDC use. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire framed the deal as an opportunity to use USDC to expand dollar access, support savings and investment through new digital products, and reach people and businesses in emerging markets.
Binance executives said the partnership aligns the exchange's commercial interests with the stablecoin's growth and will help build a more inclusive and compliant digital economy. Circle cofounder and executives see the distribution on Binance as a way to accelerate international adoption of USDC and to feed demand for the company's wider infrastructure and payment initiatives.
The move comes against a clear market backdrop: Tether's USDT remains materially larger, with roughly $183 billion in circulation versus about $75 billion for USDC, figures from CryptoQuant show. USDT retains strong international trading presence, while USDC has positioned itself around regulated markets, transparency and payments. The new deal intensifies the competition over which dollar-backed token becomes the default for cross-border trading, payments and crypto finance.
Over the five-year term, Binance will promote USDC on its platform and receive fees tied to balances, while Circle will hold shares under the agreed lockup schedule; how much market share USDC can gain from USDT will depend on adoption through Binance and other venues in the months and years ahead.
