Millions of American football fans will gain direct exposure to NASA missions and aeronautics work this season, after the agency said it will stage flyovers, astronaut appearances and fan engagement at selected National Football League games. The activity is part of a newly announced Inspiration Tour that places NASA at high-profile sporting events with the stated aim of inspiring the next generation and highlighting US leadership in space and aviation.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman framed the partnership as a way to link the agency's projects to a broad audience. He said, "This is the first season NASA is taking part in flyovers at NFL games, bringing the excitement of America’s space program directly to fans across the country. We’re returning to the Moon, building a Moon Base, advancing fission-powered spacecraft, and pushing the boundaries in aeronautics, science, and discovery. Achieving those ambitions will take the very best of America, and partnering with the NFL gives us an incredible platform to inspire the next generation to look up and imagine the possibilities."

The agency has published the initial slate of appearances, with exact dates and matchups already set. NASA activities are scheduled for Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Atlanta Falcons in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 13; Baltimore Ravens vs. New Orleans Saints in Baltimore on Sunday, Sept. 20; Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams in Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 4; and New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, Oct. 11. Officials said they will release additional details before each game and that more dates could be added to the tour.

Some of the flyovers scheduled for the tour will feature NASA's fleet of research and test aircraft. The agency notes those flights support high-speed testing, high-altitude research and astronaut training, while keeping the fleet mission-ready and providing a public showcase for technologies that could influence future commercial aviation.

Isaacman will lead the Inspiration Tour as it convenes partners from academia, industry and the public sector to link NASA with organisations and technologies that underpin US space and aeronautics leadership. The tour culminates in a public exposition called MAX POWER on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 on and near Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Held in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, MAX POWER will present next-generation aircraft, spacecraft, autonomous vehicles and other technologies that the agency says will shape future transportation in air and space.

NASA directed readers to its MAX POWER information page for further details and said it will publish updates to the Inspiration Tour schedule as plans are finalised, signalling a sustained public outreach push through autumn events and the November exposition.
