In his post the president compared the proposed body to the Space Force and wrote, "We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry," adding, "Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!" He also published a poll asking followers whether the term artificial intelligence should be rebranded to a "far more elegant and accurate description," suggesting options such as "extreme intelligence" or "supreme intelligence."
The announcement stands in clear contrast to recent appeals from AI industry leaders for slower development. A week earlier, Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei released a lengthy proposal calling to curb the pace of AI advances, and executives at competing firms including OpenAI and xAI subsequently expressed agreement with his call to slow development.
Trump argued that constraining AI research in the United States would risk allowing China to close the gap with US firms, a line he repeated after the policy sketch on Truth Social. The president is expected to meet with his Chinese counterpart next week, and AI is anticipated to be a major topic during that engagement.
Beyond the pledge and the rebranding poll, the post did not specify who will lead the AI Force, how it will be funded, or what authorities the "AI czar" would hold. Trump said he will announce his pick "in the near future," leaving the timeline and scope of the office unanswered. For now, the White House position is to champion industry growth rather than to adopt the slowdown some researchers and executives have requested.
