Hyundai’s 2025 refresh increases the Ioniq 5’s battery capacity, and the result is tangible: the long-range model we tested gained 50 miles of highway range and charges faster at peak rates.

The company enlarged the standard battery from 58 to 63 kWh and the long-range pack from 77 to 84 kWh. In back-to-back tests of all-wheel-drive Limited examples, the earlier long-range Ioniq managed 210 miles on our 75-mph highway loop, while the newer car achieved 260 miles on the identical route.

Charging performance improved alongside range. The older long-range car reached 10 to 90 percent in 33 minutes, with a peak of 231 kilowatts and an average of 117 kilowatts during the session, and it added 150 miles of range in 23 minutes. The updated Ioniq cut the 10-to-90 percent interval by two minutes, hit a 260 kilowatt peak, averaged 140 kilowatts, and added 72.5 kilowatts to the battery in that same span. It also added 150 miles of range in just 16 minutes.

Hyundai also switched the Ioniq 5 to a NACS charging inlet for 2025 and newer models, making access to fast chargers simpler by tapping into Tesla’s Supercharger ecosystem. That change reduces an important friction point for owners who depend on public high-speed DC infrastructure.

The test cars ran the same 255/45R-20 Michelin Primacy Tour all-season tires, and both runs occurred on similarly temperate summer days within one degree of each other, so tyre choice and weather were not meaningful variables in the difference.

For buyers, the practical takeaway is clear: the new battery hardware materially improves usable range and charging speed. Anyone considering a used Ioniq 5 should confirm which battery is installed, while shoppers looking at 2025 and newer models will get the larger packs, faster peak charging and NACS convenience as standard. The results underline how quickly EV platforms can improve through battery and charging upgrades.
